About Andrew Pontes
Andrew Pontes began his accounting career in 2012 after earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. His first role as a staff accountant at a circuit board manufacturing company in New Bedford provided him with a strong foundation in accounting. He then transitioned to an accounting position at a drywall company, where he gained valuable experience in the construction industry, working closely with estimators, project managers, field superintendents, and contractors. This hands-on experience in a dynamic construction environment deepened his understanding of operations and financial management, eventually leading to his promotion to Controller. Later, Andrew joined a larger carpentry company, where he oversaw day-to-day accounting, job costing, and process improvements, further refining his expertise.
In March 2018, Andrew stepped in to support his father’s business by taking on the bookkeeping role, balancing it with his full-time job and weekends. This part-time responsibility soon revealed a greater opportunity, transforming his father’s business into his first client and inspiring the launch of AP Bookkeeping in 2020. Initially envisioned as a side business, AP Bookkeeping quickly grew into a full-time venture by August 2021, driven by Andrew’s dedication and expertise. Outside of work, Andrew enjoys playing hockey, cheering for the Patriots and Bruins, and spending quality time with his wife Andrea, son Jack, and close family and friends.
